What does it mean to be rooted? As someone who ha What does it mean to be rooted? As someone who has lived between cultures for years, I’ve come to realize that identity isn’t fixed it’s something we shape over time. This piece explores that space between inheritance and becoming. I’m so grateful to share that Rooted in Values has been selected for the In Dialogue exhibition presented by the Indian American Artists Association 💛 I wrote a deeper reflection on the meaning behind this work (link in bio). This painting of Durga was created with traditional gold foil and a vision of her as serene and motherly, holding both strength and grace at once. To me, she represents the many forms of feminine power - quiet resilience, courage in adversity, and the deep love that sustains life. On this Women’s Day, I celebrate the Durga within every woman - the force that creates, protects, and transforms the world. The richness of tradition, the intricate details, and the devotional process reminded me why I love immersing myself in this art form and I am so grateful for this opportunity. I start by applying a smooth layer (traditionally a mixture of chalk powder and glue) to create the perfect surface. Once it’s dry, it’s ready to hold the delicate work of relief, gold, and paint.
