Goddess Durga — the embodiment of divine feminine power, yet radiating a motherly grace that protects and nurtures.

Creating this Tanjore-style art commission was a deeply meaningful journey. The richness of tradition, the intricate details, and the devotional process reminded me why I love immersing myself in this art form and I am so grateful for this opportunity.

Though my upcoming landscape series looks very different, both kinds of work connect me to the same source of peace and meaning.

Before the colors, gold foil, and details of a Tanjore painting come alive, there’s a careful process of preparing the base.

I start by applying a smooth layer (traditionally a mixture of chalk powder and glue) to create the perfect surface. Once it’s dry, it’s ready to hold the delicate work of relief, gold, and paint.

It’s a meditative beginning, slow, steady, and grounding and it sets the tone for everything that follows. 🌿
